A leash is as important as the other training tools we mentioned in our post of the essential training tools every owner should have.
Training can take time and patience for any first time dog owner and during this process your dog needs to learn that a leash is what helps to connect the both of you together.
There are different leashes for different purposes so it’s no surprise if owners have many leashes for a specific occasion.
Therefore we wanted to go over the different types of leashes that are available for dog owners and the many options they can choose from.
The 5 different type of leashes are…
1. Standard Leashes
Standard leashes are used for basic dog training and everyday use.
Typically they range from 4 – 6 ft and is made commonly out of nylon and is flat.
Other standard leashes come in various designs such as leather, rope, or even chain.
Leather is made for more durability and style, while rope is round as opposed to the nylon flat design and these rope styles are ideal for larger dogs.
Chain leashes are good for those aggressive chewers, but it can be a little heavier.

2. Retractable
Next up are retractable leashes.
Retractable leashes are made out of nylon material that has a reach of up to 26 ft and can lock in place, think of how a measuring tape works.
Retractable leashes are beneficial for owners who want to give dogs a little more freedom than just your standard length without giving complete freedom.

The adjustable leash, or multifunctional leash, is usually used to wrap around your body or waist and is often used for owners who like to run with their dogs.
However this is good for those who have well trained dogs.

4. Slip Leads
Slip leads (or leashes) are your all in one leashes and collars.
The leash loops around itself for an easy to slip onto your dogs neck, so it stays loose on your dogs neck unless they pull on the leash the slip will tighten.
A warning to owners because this can be dangerous as if they pull too tightly it can close off your dogs airway causing health damage to your dog if they are known for pulling.
That is why we recommend this for training purposes and not for everyday use unless you do have a well trained dog, so use caution when using slip leads.

5. Special Features
